Having supported the NSPCC for 40 years, our growing relationship with NSPCC JERSEY led to the Foundation purchasing a building, which in 2013 was donated to the NSPCC after being completely refitted. It is now an award-winning centre.

Now based for 13 years at The Gower Centre in Stopford Road, NSPCC Jersey believe that by everybody working together in our Island community, we can prevent child sexual abuse and build lasting change for generations to come.

We are a specialist child sexual abuse service who offer direct support to children and their families.

We work to raise awareness with professionals and the wider community to enable everyone to understand, support and protect children. 

We aim to do the following:

• increase understanding around the subject of child sexual abuse
• raise awareness for families and our community so abuse can be identified, prevented and responded to effectively
• work alongside our partners to make sure all those working with children have increased confidence, skills and knowledge to provide appropriate support around prevention, protection and recovery
• work together to provide a therapeutic space for children and families impacted by child sexual abuse
• champion system change to create a culture where all children feel confident that adults will listen, understand and keep them safe.

NSPCC Jersey use a wide range of approaches that give children and young people an opportunity to explain how they feel. This includes one to one sessions which encourage:

• talking
• play
• creative activities

 

Letting  The Future In (LTFI)

LTFI is a therapeutic service for children and young people aged 4 to 17, who have made a disclosure of sexual abuse.

Many children and young people feel confused and upset by what has happened to them. A wide range of approaches are used during the one to one sessions to give opportunities to
explain how they are feeling, including:

• talking
• play and creative activities

 

The service is designed to work with children, young people and the safe parent and or carer.

LTFI Sibling Service

NSPCC Jersey also supports the siblings of those children who have been sexually abused. We are increasingly aware that when sexual abuse has been disclosed, there will be impact for all family members, so we’re very pleased to be able to extend this service to include other children within the family.

Turn the Page

Turn the Page helps children and young people who have displayed harmful sexual behaviour and supports their families and their professional network. There are a range of assessment and intervention options for children and young people between the ages of 4 and 17. This programme works with those children and the safe adults in their lives to address their needs, wider safeguarding concerns, and prevent further harm.

Speak Out. Stay Safe.

Speak out. Stay safe. is a safeguarding programme available to all primary schools in Jersey
for children aged 5 to 11. The programme:

• is child friendly
• is interactive for KS1 and KS2 and includes video assemblies
• supports classroom resources

 

The aim of Speak out. Stay safe. is to help children:

• understand abuse in all its forms and recognise the signs of abuse
• understand that abuse is never a child’s fault, and they have the right to be safe
• know how to get help, and the sources of help available to them, including our Childline service 

 

Versions of the programme are also available in British Signed Language (BSL) and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

‘Be the First Filter’

‘Be the First Filter’ is the name of an online safety campaign that has been jointly developed with parents and Safeguarding partners. The campaign is aimed at parents and carers of children aged 9-11 years olds and the professionals that work with them. The campaign aims to reduce the prevalence of children sharing ‘self generated’ images online, through increasing the skills, knowledge and confidence of adults who support them.
